Article 1: Name. This organization shall be known as [Local Union Name & Number]. Article 2: Purpose. The purpose of [Local Union Name & Number] is to protect and advance the interests of its members, enforce the collective agreement, and promote solidarity in accordance with the National or Provincial constitution. Article 3: Membership. Membership shall be open to workers covered by the Local's bargaining certificates who are members in good standing of the National or Provincial union. Rights and obligations of membership follow the National or Provincial constitution and these bylaws. Article 4: Executive. The Local Executive Committee (LEC) shall consist of the President, 1 Vice-President(s), Secretary, Treasurer, and the Chief Steward. The LEC administers the Local between General Membership Meetings. Article 5: Stewards. Stewards shall be organized as follows: [Steward structure]. Stewards represent members in the workplace and report to the Chief Steward and the LEC. Article 6: Quorum. Quorum for a General Membership Meeting (GMM) shall be [GMM Quorum Number]. Quorum for an LEC meeting shall be [LEC Quorum Number]. No binding motion or expenditure may pass without quorum. Article 7: Meetings. The Local shall hold General Membership Meetings as follows: [Meeting frequency]. Special meetings may be called by the President or by petition of members as set out in the National or Provincial constitution and these bylaws. Article 8: Elections. Officers and stewards shall be elected for terms of [Election term], in accordance with the National or Provincial constitution and these bylaws. Nominations, notice, and ballot procedures shall be published to the membership before each election. Article 9: Finances. All cheques and electronic payments of the Local shall require signatures or authorizations from [Signing officers]. The Treasurer shall present financial reports to the membership. The fiscal year ends on [Fiscal Year End Date]. Article 10: Trustees. The Local shall have [Trustees]. Trustees shall review the books and report to the membership as required by the National or Provincial constitution and these bylaws. Article 11: Committees. The LEC may establish standing and special committees. Committee terms of reference shall not conflict with these bylaws or the National or Provincial constitution. Article 12: Amendments. These bylaws may be amended only after [Amendment notice], a vote at a quorate General Membership Meeting, and a two-thirds (2/3) majority of members present. Where required by the National or Provincial constitution, amended bylaws take effect only after national or provincial approval. Article 13: Conflict with the Constitution. If any provision of these bylaws conflicts with the National or Provincial constitution, the constitution prevails. These bylaws shall be read to give effect to the constitution wherever possible.
