Our commitment
Union participation should be open to everyone. We want people with disabilities to be able to find information, create communications, and use UnionOps with dignity and independence.
This statement covers the UnionOps public website, public communications tools, Officer Hub, and Local Portal. A union or another organization operating its own installation is responsible for its accessibility arrangements and the content it publishes.
Our accessibility target
We use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, as our internal design and development target. This is a target for our work, not a claim that every page, tool, or exported document meets every requirement.
Ontario’s Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and its regulations establish obligations for organizations within their scope. The applicable website requirements refer to WCAG 2.0, Level AA, with specified exceptions. Our WCAG 2.2 target does not, by itself, establish compliance with those legal obligations.
Features that can help
The site’s accessibility menu offers larger text, higher contrast, and reduced motion. These preferences are saved in the browser on your device. You can also use your browser’s zoom and the accessibility features of your device.
Our development approach includes clear page headings, labelled controls, keyboard navigation, visible focus, readable contrast, and English and French content. We use automated checks on selected pages to help identify problems. Those checks cannot replace testing with assistive technology or feedback from people using the service.
Current limits
This statement does not assert site-wide WCAG conformance. Any conformance claim must identify the assessment date, the pages and tasks assessed, the languages covered, and the methods used.
Older Officer Hub screens and complex editing tools may still present barriers. Accessibility can vary by task, browser, device, and assistive technology. Keyboard use, screen-reader behaviour, zoom, focus management, and exported documents are important parts of ongoing accessibility review.
Content uploaded or created by users can also introduce barriers. An image of a poster does not provide the same access as its text. If you share a graphic, include its essential information in the accompanying message and add useful alternative text. Do not assume that a generated PDF has an accessible reading order or can be read correctly by a screen reader.
Third-party websites linked from UnionOps have their own accessibility practices. Tell us if an essential linked resource creates a barrier so we can consider an alternative.
Report a barrier or request another format
Email ryan@ryanmorris.ca with “Accessibility” in the subject line. You may write in English or French. You can report a problem, ask for help completing a task, or request information in another format.
Please include whatever you are comfortable sharing:
- The page or tool you were using and what you wanted to do.
- What prevented you from completing the task.
- Your preferred way to receive the information or a reply.
- Your browser, device, or assistive technology, if relevant.
You do not need to disclose a diagnosis or medical information. Please leave member names, case details, passwords, and other confidential information out of screenshots and messages.
We will discuss the barrier with you, identify a practical way to provide access, and explain the next step. Where a permanent fix needs more time, we will seek an appropriate interim alternative. If there is a deadline affecting your participation, please tell us so we can take it into account. This statement does not set a guaranteed response or repair time.
If email itself creates a barrier, a person you choose may contact us on your behalf.
Improving and reviewing accessibility
We prioritize barriers that prevent people from obtaining essential information or completing important tasks. Feedback, testing, and changes to the service inform that work.
When we publish accessibility assessment results, we describe their date, coverage, methods, and remaining limitations. We will update this statement when our accessibility arrangements materially change and identify the date of the revised version.
